The MTA operates the Staten Island Railway, which stretches along the east side of Staten Island from the St. George Ferry Terminal to Tottenville.  Frequent departures are timed so that passengers leaving the Staten Island Ferry will not have to wait for a train.

The Staten Island Railway uses the same fare system as the subway and bus (MetroCard).  You can transfer free from the subway or bus as well, so if you are taking a subway or bus anyway you can ride for no additional fare.  Passengers riding the Staten Island Railway are only required to pay their fare if they enter or exit at the St. George station.  If you travel to and from a station besides St. George, you ride for free!
